Lion 010 - Short and not so sweet
It has been estimated that lions copulate 3000 times for every one year old cub that survives. The pair usually separate from the pride, estrus typically lasts for about four to six days, and they couple 2-3 times per hour throughout this time without pausing to hunt or eat. This high frequency of mating is because lions, like other members of the cat family, are thought to be induced ovulators, with copulation helping to stimulate ovulation. Immediately after mating the female is momentarily vocal and aggressive, which evokes a similar response from the male, as seen here. Masai Mara, Kenya
